Inspired by Wood

I grew up surrounded by wood - pretty hard not to when your father was a furniture maker.

Being creative with wood is fun and makes me happy. Making boards where you scratch your head and wonder how the heck I did it is a bonus for me.

Timbers are sourced from sustainably Australian managed forests. Timbers sourced are certified under the Australian Forestry Standard (AFS), Programme for Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes (PEFC), Fine Timber Tasmania (FTT) and the Forest Stewardship Council Certification (FSC).

Only kiln dried Australian timbers are used - no chemical treatments

No overseas timber is used as it may have been treated or fumigated to land in Australia

My Approach

Because these are cutting boards that food will be placed on:-

  • only Australian woods are used to ensure no chemical treatments have been used

  • food grade glue is used in the making process

  • food grade epoxy is used for wormholes, if required

  • food grade mineral oil and beeswax is used in the finishing process

I use Australian timbers because:-

  • there are some pretty cool Australian woods

  • there is less environmental footprint through reduced transportation

  • certainty of sustainability through certification

  • because I want to support Australian businesses

It’s just me, so:-

  • I create boards that I want to

  • most boards are one-offs, especially if the grain lends itself that way

  • there is no mass production - I would get bored if that was the case

  • sometimes Megs helps with design ideas
